Hello!
I'm comedian, actor and writer, Charlie Vero-Martin. I'm from Edinburgh and live in London. I specialise in character comedy, teach improv comedy and have a penchant for puppets. My recent solo comedy show Picnic sold out performances in Glasgow, Leicester, Vault, the Edinburgh Fringe and at Soho Theatre. You can also watch it on Next Up Comedy.
Here are some more things about me...
I've written jokes and sketches for BBC Scotland, BBC Radio Scotland, BBC Radio 4, Hat Trick Productions and Griff Rhys Jones.
Last year I was a finalist for the Funny Women Stage Award and the Leicester Square Theatre - Sketch Off.
In recent years I have also been shortlisted for the Funny Women Writing Award and UKTV-Triforce WriterSlam and longlisted for BBC Interconneted and the BBC Ignite Children's Animation Award.
I'm often in disguise as Persephone Gemstone, Mr Pinecone, Professor Von Flip Flop, The Gatekeeper, Mr Basketcase, Neville Nevillson, Napoleon, Dante, Zelda Fitzgerald, Amelia Earhart, Jane Austen or when of my many other comedy alter egos.
I have written four solo comedy shows that I've taken to the Edinburgh Fringe: Dante's History of the Banished (2017); The 24/7 Club (2018); Scrapbook (2019) and Picnic (2023).
I have studied clowning with various masters including Philippe Gaulier, graduated from the NFTS in a Writing & Producing Comedy diploma with Channel 4 and have an MA in Italian & Modern History from St Andrews University (which is surprisingly relevant to my work). I was also a member of the National Youth Theatre.
